Craven Energy is a triathlon/multisport club based in and around Skipton, North Yorkshire. After forming in early 2009 we have enjoyed increasing membership. We now run regular coached training sessions and enjoy open water swimming over the summer months. We are affiliated with Triathlon England and British Cycling.
Our aim is to run a friendly, local triathlon club catering for all abilities from complete novice to seasoned Ironman.
If you spot any broken links on the website or have news or enquiries to add then please contact Michael Horsfield.

Ian won the Harriers v. Cyclists, just beating local legend Andy Peace of Bingley Harriers. Both Ian and Andy broke the course record. Ian beat Rob Jebb's record by 10 seconds, outsprinting Andy over the last few metres.
SportsSunday were covering the event, and as usual provide some extremely high quality event photos.

This event is an opportunity for children from around the Skipton area to experience the fun of a triathlon event. It is the aim of the Craven Energy to provide more opportunities for younger members to take part in triathlon and activate a junior section to the club. This event is a fun challenge to give the children an idea what it would be like to do a triathlon. It is not a race; it is a coached course which allows children to swim, then bike, then run all safely within Aireville park.
Categories and distances for the event are as follows:
Note : Minimum requirement is to be able to swim 25m continuously front crawl or breaststroke (not backstroke) and safely ride a bike. Mountain bike or similar (in good working order) only and preferably trainers with a grippy sole as the bike and run are on undulating grass surface in the park. Older children will be able to choose to participate at the shorter distance should they wish. Unfortunately we will be unable to allow younger children to try the longer distance.

New to the sport? Worried about your fitness? Wobbly on the bike or sink in the pool? Then this is the place for you to start. Some like minded CE members have offered to support and nurture new members. See the link above.
2 rides are arranged. The dates are: 1st June and 16th June to meet at 6:30 outside Coffee Care in the Canal Basin car park. Questions can be directed to Linda.
We now have a race results page on the website. The link is at the top.
Congratulations to Craven Energy member Harry Coates who won his age group in Spain at the weekend in the first ITU Cross Triathlon World Championships.
We are taking orders for club kit.
We need a minimum of 11 items to place an order – so if you're fancying updating your race/training wardrobe please send an email/text 07815048859 thegrasshoppergirl@gmail.com
Club running vests are now also available – price tbc around £15 (– no minimum order on these).
The “Durty Divas” and “Tutti Fruttis” Weds eve ladies bike rides.
These rides will be lead/planned by the same people (i.e. Kalie and Weds night riding partner Caroline) and will be posted on the calendar with a start time and place.
Tutti Fruttis is ladies road ride – men welcome as long as they behave.
Durty Divas – ladies off-road ride i.e. Mountain Biking - men welcome assuming they open/close gates, fix punctures/chains etc. and be generally helpful…always a time and a place for equality!!
Start time is more or less straight from work – meeting in either Skipton, or the Bull at Broughton on the A59 depending on route direction at 5.30pm. Depart 5.40
These rides are for relatively competent riders. The pace depends on who turns up – thru winter it has been “quick enough to keep warm” but has calmed down with the warmer evenings and we won't leave anyone behind – and hope such courtesy will be returned.
Anyone who plans to come, please post your name on the calendar or email thegrasshoppergirl@gmail.com so we don't go without you – some MTB rides will be from Hetton, Tosside (Gisburn Forest) or Gargrave. All abilities welcome, some skills training will occasionally happen –through and off, the odd sprint on the road, and some “sessioning” of technical off-road bits where requested . But it's basically getting out with the lasses for a nice ride….sorry no cake or café stops on Kali's rides….its evening after all
Well done to all Craven Energy members taking part in the 2011 Skipton Triathlon. Congratulations to those taking the plunge and completing their first ever triathlon event. For a small club we have generated some very good times and positions.
Richard Annable has kindly put the CE results into a spreadsheet which is viewable here.
A special mention goes to both Harry Coates and Benjamin Edwards who each finished first in the run and swim respectively.
Rugged Ways, the new outdoor shop on the High Street in Skipton are offering members a discount upon production of their membership card.
Oliver has provided detailed breakdown of the 400m time trial swim times here.
Now that the race season is finished many of us are looking to reduce our training intensity. Our regular Sunday training rides are now running again. The distances will be relatively short in Autumn as we start to build our endurance base for 2011. We will focus on bike handling skills, group riding and gradually build on the distance, rather than speed or going up lots of very steep hills. If you are a novice or intermediate level rider then now may be the time to come and join us on a Sunday morning. Our rides will initially be a couple of hours and involve coffee and cake.
Following the successful running session in August we have copies of the running drills available for download here. Click to view, or right click then 'save link as' to download.
